On December 11th, Professor Quan Jingtai from Keimyung University in South Korea visited School of Northeast Asian Studies, and gave a lecture on “Northeast Asian Economic Cooperation: Transportation and Logistics” at Room 104, Wentian Building, marking the 20th lecture produced by “Northeast Asia Academic Forum”. Professor Zhao Yupu, Dean of Northeast Asia Studies School, hosted the lecture, and Professor Huang Yongzhe was the interpretor. More than 100 teachers and students from Shandong University at Weihai attended this lecture.
Professor Quan first talked about the geographic, economic and demographic characteristics of Northeast Asia, and shared his understanding of the “pathway”. Then he gave a detailed description of sea power, ocean in the eyes of future scholars, maritime conflict in Asia, and proposed to build alternative transportation routes and diversify resource transmission channels, focusing on the era of international competition of sea power. Then he moved on to the strategy of network expansion for Northeast Asian enterprises and Northeast Asian countries to co-build a logistics network. During the lecture, Prof. Huang conducted an accurate interpretation to convey Prof. Quan’s ideas to the audience. At the end of the lecture, Professor Zhang Jingquan asked questions about the role played by Shandong Province in the establishment of trade and maritime relations among China, Japan, and South Korea. Undergraduates, postgraduates and Korean international students from the Department of International Politics and Economics, the Department of Korean Studies, and the Department of Japanese Studies also raised questions on different aspects. After Professor Quan answers all the questions, Dean Zhao concluded this lecture with a summary.
“Northeast Asia Academic Forum” is a platform which periodically invites Chinese and foreign scholars to give lectures at Shandong University at Weihai, aiming to provide students as well as teachers with opportunities to communicate face-to-face with well-known scholars. Today’s lecture provided students with insights on the economic cooperation on transportation and logistics among Northeast Asian countries. Students who attended this lecture received deep inspiration for their future studies in this field.
