Overview:
The Japanese major of Shandong University at Weihai was established in 1995 to recruit junior college students. In 2000, the first group of undergraduates formally enrolled. There are 9 faculty members, all of whom have long-term or short-term experience of studying, training and working in Japan. The department also hires 2 Japanese foreign teachers on a long term basis.
The department is dedicated to cultivating Japanese major students with a correct outlook on the world, on life and values. Patriotism is heavily emphasized, together with good morality, social responsibility, communication skills, spirit of teamwork, and a sound and complete personality.
A scientific curriculum is set up to equip students with the proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating through Japanese language courses, as well as to nourish students’ literary taste and artistic aesthetics through literary and cultural courses. On the other hand, School of Northeast Asia Studies infuses Japanese major with characteristics of regional studies, offering courses concerning diplomacy, economy and trade, history and culture of Northeast Asia. Students t are encouraged to learn professional knowledge in another subject area through the “Japanese +” mode. Students’ interdisciplinary thinking ability and cross-cultural communication ability are at the center of focus. And students’ independent learning and practice capability, innovative and humanities quality are highlighted throughout the entire program. The ultimate goal is to help students achieve an all-round development.
The department has established cooperative relations with many famous Japanese universities such as Waseda University, Kobe University, Sophia University, Hokkai School of Commerce, and Meio University. 100% of our students have an opportunity to study in Japan for a long or short period of time. A large percent of students from out department obtain acceptance from post-graduate programs at top universities such as Peking University, Fudan University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Shanghai International Studies University. At the same time, more and more students have pursued further education abroad at universities such as Tokyo University, Waseda University, Kyushu University, and Hokkaido University. The employment rate remains steadily above 90%, and most of the employers expressed great satisfaction with the overall quality of our graduates.
Direction of Employment:
Our graduates are capable of performing translation, research, teaching, and management in the field of foreign affairs, trade, culture, journalism, research, tourism and other sectors.
