International Politics

Program Overview:

The undergraduate program of International Politics, recognized as a first-class undergraduate program in Shandong Province, serves as a key interdisciplinary platform for emerging fields in Northeast Asia at Shandong University. It boasts a robust faculty and academic team. Rooted in the national standard curriculum for International Politics at the secondary discipline level, the program emphasizes international and regional governance, with a particular focus on comprehensive regional education on East Asia and Northeast Asia. It highlights the interdisciplinary nature of new liberal arts education, integrating politics, economics, and language instruction.

Faculty:

The program has assembled a high-caliber faculty with diverse expertise and a well-structured teaching hierarchy. Currently, there are 20 full-time faculty members, including 8 professors (1 Chair Professor, 1 Distinguished Professor, and 1 Outstanding Young and Middle-Aged Scholar of Shandong University), and 4 associate professors. The program also has 5 doctoral supervisors and 10 master's supervisors, in addition to 22 visiting professors from both domestic and international institutions.

Training Objectives:

The program aims to cultivate versatile talents with a solid foundation in Marxist theory, embodying the characteristics of emerging interdisciplinary studies. These talents possess extensive knowledge, particularly in the political, economic, social, and cultural aspects of East Asia and Northeast Asia. They are proficient in English and can communicate effectively in at least one language of a Northeast Asian country. They receive basic training in social surveys and statistical analysis, enabling them to excel in relevant professional roles.

The International Politics program admits students who have taken English as their examination language. It places great emphasis on fostering an international perspective among students, offering a certain proportion of courses taught entirely in English. The program provides opportunities for overseas study, invites top scholars from both domestic and international institutions to teach specialized courses, and organizes academic lectures in the field of international relations. It boasts a comprehensive talent cultivation system spanning undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels.

Career Paths:

Graduates can pursue careers in foreign affairs departments of central and local governments, overseas missions, relevant enterprises and institutions, international organizations, non-governmental think tanks, multinational corporations, news media, domestic and international universities, and research institutions.
