Yuan Li is the Vice Dean of the Institute of International Studies and professor at the School of Northeast Asia Studies, Shandong University. He is the co-editor of the Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies. He also serves as the expert of the Silk-Road Planning Research Center; associated member of the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST), University of Duisburg-Essen; board member of the Chinese Economic Association (Europe/UK). Jointly, he has set up the “International Forum on the ‘New Silk Road’ and Sino-European Cooperation” with the University of Duisburg-Essen, and the “Global Economic Policy Group” with the University of Westminster. He was the President of the Chinese Economic Association, Europe/UK (2016-2017).

From 2014-2020, he was a professor at the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST), University of Duisburg-Essen. From 2012-2013, he was an Assistant Professor at Stockholm School of Economics. He held various visiting positions at the University of California, San Diego, University of Milan-Bicocca, and Fudan University. He held honorary positions as “Zijin” Scholar at Nanjing University of Science and Technology. He was an invited expert of the “Research Centre on the Belt and Road Initiative” at Jilin University and an invited expert at the Chongqing Academy of Social Sciences.

His research interests include political economy, regional and area studies, institutions and organizations, the Belt and Road Initiative. He also contributes extensively to public debates on issues related to China-Europe relations, reflected in his think-tank reports, invited talks, and news media interviews. He got his Ph.D. in Economics from DEFAP, Catholic University of Milan.
